Deep Blue Bedroom Retreat

From neutral and forgettable to a deep, cocooning bedroom designed for calm, elegance, and evening wind-down.

Designed for an Italian couple living in Reading, UK. One partner was struggling with insomnia, so the goal was a bedroom that felt instantly calming after stressful days at work.

Project Brief

This bedroom wasn’t lacking furniture, it was lacking feeling. The brief was to create a space that soothed the nervous system at the end of a busy day, while still feeling elegant and quietly bold. We used a deep night blue to visually soften the room into a cocoon, layered aubergine for richness and luxury, and introduced blush pink as a feminine lift to keep the palette sensual rather than heavy.

Design Highlights

  • Colour strategy: Deep night blue for cocooning calm • Aubergine for depth & luxury • Pink accents for a soft feminine touch

  • Biophilic layer: Natural textures through cotton bedding and wool layering & an indirect nature reference in the wall art

  • Lighting mood: Soft, indirect glow with warmer temperatures for evening wind-down

  • Palette notes: Walls in Farrow & Ball Stiffkey Blue. An inky backdrop for calm, elegance, and evening wind-down.

Customer Review

“From the moment we saw the first images of our blue bedroom design, we knew we were in the hands of someone truly special. Nicla didn’t just decorate a room, she transformed it into a sanctuary. Before working with Nicla, our bedroom never truly felt restful and switching off after intense workdays was a real challenge. What she created is more than a redesign, it’s a cocoon. For the first time in years, our bedroom genuinely supports our sleep and wellbeing. It’s elegant, personal, and profoundly restorative.”
